To improve speed and overall performance, version 2.0 will contain its own database. Number of internal improvements, including LINQ queries and multithreading, makes loading metadata much faster. Filtering items is almost instantaneously. in addition, filters are build from metadata stored directly in xml files. However, you will have a choice of using your own custom lists. New version supports multiple source locations. For those with large media collections stored on network drives, you will be able to specify locations to be included in "reload option". This way you can update your library without spinning up all drives. Since reading images from media folders affects application performance, new thumbnails cache folder will keep the most current collection of images. Thumbnail cache folder will perform its own cleaning routine to ensure minimum required size. Also, you will be able to specify its location. One of the biggest addition in version 2.0 is more familiar Tree View like form that allows for easier metadata editing. With a press of a button , you will be able to return to Batch View. Since this is all about your choice, you can specify start up options in application settings. Use MPC MediaFile the way you want it, metadata editor or batch processor. Some of the features, including support for themoviedb.org and thetvdb.com are still under development.
Since the list of improvements and changes is substantial, it is only appropriate to call it version 2.0. However, due to complexity of application, maintaining 3 different versions of the same product becomes much more difficult. Therefore versions Basic and Music Videos are being discontinued. For those that purchased these versions, you will have option of upgrading your license. Premium license remains valid.
